I am Akshata, an artist based in India.

I am an artist practicing tapestry as a primary medium. I love to paint. And to weave my painted imaginations.

As I weave tapestries in a free-flowing and organic way, the medium directs me into intuitive making.

As an attempt to search for a medium beyond the academic textile design subjects, tapestry weaving became an artform that really connected to my way of self expression and thought. Fascinated by medieval tapestries in renaissance Europe, Indian & Persian rugs and carpets, I explored the art form beyond the boundaries of weaving on a handloom.
The slow process of hand weaving has been bringing me closer to realization of self, of being.

Mostly, my tapestries are woven in and around the concept of rivers that surround me. I go looking for them, and find reverence in them, reviving through weaves, their pure form in this world of climate change and pollution.

Like the river changes its discourse, I change the weave’s course.

In the process, I am intrigued and find solace and peace, trying to weave their souls in tapestries.
In my country, I have participated in group shows in galleries. I wish to showcase my work across the globe, and develop my work further.
